Permanent makeup has gained popularity over the last few years — gaining traction with comically bad arched brows or too-bright lip blush.

One tattoo artist who has opened a shop in downtown Lock Haven wants to change this.

Jordyn Wallstrom, sole artist and owner of Viridian Cosmetic Tattoo, said: “I’m going to modernize it.” Some people think permanent makeup is for their grandmothers or aunts, who got it done in tattoo shops in the 90s. Their makeup was not done correctly, or they had bold brows.

“I would like to use more natural permanent makeup that heals better and is more ethical. Walstrom stated that she did not want her clients to regret the decision. “I want to help my clients make the best decision for them in the long run.”

Walstrom is hosting an opening party on Saturday, May 13, from 1-5 p.m.

The event is free, so bring your friends, clients, and anyone you like!

Walstrom invites the community to enjoy refreshments, check out the new space, and drink.

Also, there will be booking incentives like a 20% discount if booked during the event. Giveaways and Linked Permanent Jewelry Pop Ups are also planned.

Walstrom was born in Philipsburg, Centre County. She has just moved to Jersey Shore. She jumped at the chance to open her store in Lock Haven.

Walstrom’s brother, Tyler Walstrom, has been a tattoo artist for around 15 years and has had his Rock & Ruthless Tattoo shop in Philipsburg for ten years.

“I was introduced to tattooing by him,” she said. “I used to work at the shop when I was a child. I was also intrigued — I was always interested in makeup and beauty. I worked as a freelance makeup artist for weddings and events. “The two worlds mixed a little.”

She received her permanent makeup certification in the summer of 2020. She initially only did brows but eventually expanded her services to include eyeliner, blush, freckles, and lip gloss.

“I always make sure my customers make the best decision for themselves. I explain to someone who wants to wear super-bold, super-winged eyeliner to their eyebrow that it may look bad in 20 or 30 years. Walstrom explained that something trendy today might not be in a few years. “I’m looking for them to walk out of my door 100 percent happy.”

Walstrom has been doing permanent makeup since July of 2022 — after working for the state full-time and then part-time in her brother’s shop. She would pack all of her clientele into one day during the weekend — tattooing for 10-12 hours at a time, doing her best to build a clientele.

Walstrom said, “I have always loved Lock Haven. It reminds me of my home.” It has a small-town feel. It takes a lot of work to be successful as a small company, but you can get more involved. You get to know your clients better.”

Walstrom is planning big things for the space. He hopes to bring in guest spots periodically to keep things interesting.

“Maybe my brother will come and do piercings or walk-ins.” It will mostly be just me. Walstrom says he would love to expand the business and hire more people long-term, but he is comfortable with his current situation.

Viridian is located on Bellefonte Ave. in Lock Haven.

Walstrom’s shop will only be open by appointment. You can find the pricing on her website.
