Dennis Hamilton Transforms Mount Holly with Fantasy Tattoos

Dennis Hamilton’s artistic journey began long before he donned the title of a tattoo artist. Originating from Oceanside, California, the 42-year-old found inspiration in art to maintain his sanity. However, the revelation sparked by the show Miami Ink in 2005 led him to consider tattooing a viable career path.

Artistic Evolution: Hamilton, a video game design graduate from The Art Institute of San Diego, initially pursued art as a personal outlet. The turning point came when friends introduced him to the diverse world of tattooing through Miami Ink. This revelation prompted Hamilton to explore the possibilities within tattoo artistry, especially leaning towards black-and-grey realism, in stark contrast to traditional styles.

After acquiring equipment from supportive friends, Hamilton compiled a portfolio and sought an apprenticeship, marking the inception of his tattooing career. His artistic journey led him to California, where he spent over a decade honing his craft as a tattoo artist.

A Change of Scenery: Seeking a shift in lifestyle, Hamilton, accompanied by his wife April, contemplated a move to North Carolina. The decision was influenced by the lower cost of living compared to California. The couple settled in Charlotte in 2021 before eventually finding their new home in Mount Holly in 2023. Hamilton appreciates the lush greenery, starkly contrasting California’s arid landscape.

Artistry in Mount Holly: Hamilton’s studio operates by appointment only and reflects his artistic preferences.
