Drew Barrymore Adds “I Am Human” to Her Tattoo Collection on Live TV

Drew Barrymore, the charismatic host of the Drew Barrymore Show, surprised viewers by getting her 12th tattoo live on air. The renowned actress and talk show host decided to commemorate the moment with the phrase “I Am Human” inked on her wrist. This impromptu decision unfolded during a recent episode of her show, and the entire journey was documented on both TikTok and Instagram.

In the behind-the-scenes clip shared by Barrymore, she explained that the idea for the tattoo came to her just a day before the show. Known for her love of tattoos, Barrymore humorously counted her existing tattoos, stating, “I like 9,” and playfully adding, “And today we’ll make it 10.” She reflected on her lifelong relationship with tattoos, having started at 13, expressing the likelihood of continuing this tradition.

The tattoo artist behind this latest addition was Jon Mesa, a contestant from season 15 of Ink Master. Mesa joined Barrymore on set to create the meaningful artwork. Barrymore showcased her calm demeanor during the process, reinforcing her comfort with the world of tattoos. Ink Master host Joel Madden also appeared, expressing admiration for the chosen message, “I Am Human.”

Madden praised Barrymore’s choice, highlighting the significance of self-compassion. “We all talk bad to ourselves. We’re the meanest to ourselves. If someone talked to us like we talked to ourselves, we’d kick them out of the room,” Madden shared. Barrymore, visibly pleased with her new ink, expressed her love for the tattoo and how Madden’s approval added to her joy.

This isn’t the first time Barrymore has incorporated tattooing into her show. In 2021, she enlisted the skills of Ink Master star Ryan Ashley to ink the phrase “Home is where we are.” This tattoo served as a heartfelt tribute to her family and reflected her philosophy on the concept of home.

Barrymore elaborated on the significance of “home,” emphasizing that it is wherever she is with her daughters, Olive and Frankie. The tattoo symbolized resilience and adaptability during times of uncertainty, reinforcing the importance of being together.

With “I Am Human” joining her collection, Barrymore’s wrist tells a unique story of self-expression, family bonds, and affirmations. The new tattoo sits alongside her “home is where we are” message and her children’s names, creating a visually rich and meaningful canvas on her skin.
