South African International Tattoo Convention (SAITC), is back, and this year it will be held in Johannesburg.
Every year, tattooers from around the globe gather under one roof for this convention.
In a statement to the press, the convention is described as “one of the most highlighted events in the world tattoo convention calendar and the only one if its kind in Africa”.
This year’s event will showcase over 140 tattoo artists from more than 22 countries chosen as the best in their field and style of work.
“SAITC promises to create a highly professional environment whilst partnering with only the best in medical waste management, sterilisation, tattoo supplies and to present a highly professional standard of tattoo practices,” the convention’s official statement read.
The events last three days and offer tattoos by some of the most talented artists in the world. There will also be live entertainment from several bands on the stage.
“We are most excited about seeing our community all under one roof, celebrating tattooing and all it surrounds.” The public can look forward to seeing world class tattooing, local bands, street food and much more… with good vibes only,” said Romy van Tonder, SAITC organiser.

How do I get tattooed at the convention?
Conventions are known for their “walk up” culture. The artist will just ask you to walk up. Most tattoo artists will be able to tattoo you. If you are certain that your favorite artist will be available to tattoo you, but you don’t have the time or desire to pre-book, contact them via the artist page.
If you don’t get a response (as the tattooers are often traveling), buy a weekend pass, show up early when the doors open, and chat with the artist, as they usually will make time for you at some point throughout the weekend.
You will find more than 100 tattoo artists to choose from.
