James Hetfield of Metallica Debuts New Neck Tattoo at Record-Breaking SoFi Stadium Concert

At the age of 60, Metallica’s frontman James Hetfield has added another tattoo to his collection. The new ink was first seen during the band’s historic weekend at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, where they broke the single-show attendance record.

During the Friday performance on August 25, Hetfield’s neck was noticeably free of any new tattoos, as confirmed by in-person observations from Loudwire. However, by Sunday, August 27, a fresh tattoo reading “Thy Will Not Mine Be Done” was visible on the right side of Hetfield’s neck.

The phrase in the tattoo seems to be rooted in spiritual beliefs, suggesting surrender to a higher power. Interestingly, the exact phrase is also found in Daily Affirmations, a book published by Alcoholics Anonymous in 1990. While Hetfield has battled alcohol addiction and has been to rehab, he has never publicly associated his treatments with Alcoholics Anonymous.
